It's finally wrestling season! I have been slacking on this website, and apologize for that. Time to get back on track and churn out some good content to make everyone out there a Stronger Wrestler! I've had a few questions from parents and athletes regarding in-season training and management so we'll to a brief Q&A today. This video gets me pumped! Question: How should I manage my strength and conditioning training this season? … [Read more...] about It’s Wrestling Season!!
It's finally time. You've worked so hard this off-season to get stronger, better conditioned, and more powerful. You step up for your first match ready to show off your new found strength and...you get bullied. What happened? Where did you go wrong, and what can you do to fix it? Today we're going to talk about testing for wrestling, and how we can make sure we're getting strong specifically for wrestling. I think we should know by now that things like Bench Press and Triceps Push downs aren't the foundation for a solid wrestling strength program. For an example, here is a chart I keep in my facility for our wrestlers (specifically high school, with some middle school athletes) to strive towards. I am still playing with numbers and exercises but I have found that my athletes who hit all of these numbers tend to be some of my best on … [Read more...] about Testing for Wrestling
It's a sad day. Starting in 2020, there will no longer be any wrestling featured in the Olympics. No more brute strength, blazing speed, or awe inspiring technique to see. No more Jordan Burroughs chasing John Smiths' records, or seeing Kurt Angle break down after winning gold. Long gone are the days of wondering if Cael Sanderson and Dan Gable can continue their college dominance on a world stage, or if anyone will ever beat Alexander Karelin. The young athletes who bleed, sweat, and cry to one day realize their dream of Olympic Gold are now out of luck. How could this not inspire you? … [Read more...] about #SaveOlympicWrestling
HOPE WRESTLES On February 5th, 2013, Corey and Ryan Hope will embark on a 4 month journey across the world to Armenia. The brothers will be traveling there to train with some of the world's best Greco-Roman Wrestlers on their quest to become future Olympians. These two are clearly very passionate and driven and I am sure they will reach their goal. Corey and Ryan were gracious enough to make some time to give us an interview telling us a little bit about their trip, their desire to compete and train with the best, and how other countries around the world stack up to America in terms of Strength, Conditioning, and Power (Hint: American's are way behind). StrongerWrestler.com: Ryan and Corey, thank you so much for your time. For starters, tell us a little about yourselves, your careers so far, and what you're doing now. … [Read more...] about Interview series with Ryan and Corey Hope
As we are hitting the tail end of the season, I'd like to share how I program our wrestlers' training during the season. While it is very important to continue to train during the season, I'd like to preface this article by saying that the off-season is the most important part of a training program. Unfortunately, a phrase I often hear is "My son has wrestling season coming up next month and we need to get him stronger". Let's get this straight, once and for all: THE OFF-SEASON IS THE TIME TO GET BETTER!! (Stronger/Faster/More Technical/Etc) Can I get your son stronger in-season? Yes. Should that be the main focus? No, we should be maintaining and adding to the strength made in the off-season! When in-season, you should be immersed in your quest for a championship and sports practices take precedent over lifting. Not only that, but it … [Read more...] about In-Season Wrestling Strength
